By Tammy
In the past, I didn’t like asparagus very much. Matter of fact, growing up I won’t eat it at all. However, a few months ago I learned a new way to cook it and now I love eating the yummy vegetable. Whenever I cook anything I always get out all the equipment and ingredients that I will need to make a delicious and tasty dish. I make sure all my stuff is out on my counter and ready not only to save time, but also to make sure that I have everything that I will need to complete my task of cooking my food.
Items Needed
- Asparagus
- A frying pan or a grill pan. I prefer to use my grill pan that fits on the burners of my stove.
- A pair of tongs for turning the asparagus over.
- Cooking spray
- Salt
- Pepper
- Olive Oil
- Garlic Powder
Choosing Asparagus
I prefer to purchase my asparagus at a farmer’s market that is located here in my town. However, I am not always able to do that so when the farmer’s market is closed I get it from the grocery store. A tip to buying asparagus is to look for smaller sized asparagus, in my eyes it seems to be much more tender than the larger stalks.
Preparation
- The first thing you should do is place your pan on the stove, then spray it with cooking spray and turn it to low so it can heat up.
- At this point, clean your asparagus by running it under cold water in the sink, the object is to make sure to get all the sand off of the stalks. After you wash it, then place it on a paper towel.
- Now, season your asparagus with salt, pepper and garlic powder continuing to rub each stalk with a little bit of olive oil.
Cooking Your Asparagus
It’s time to put the asparagus on your grilling pan or in the frying pan depending on which one you’re using to cook your asparagus. I cook my asparagus for about one minute on a side, then I take my tongs and cook the other side for about one minute, as well. Your asparagus will be done when you can easily poke it with a knife. Oh one more thing, I have noticed that when I buy asparagus it is best if I use it right away because it seems to lose flavor if I store it in the refrigerator for too long.
Hopefully you found this guide on how to cook asparagus useful. Happy Eating!
